The 2024 British Final will take place at Belle Vue’s National Speedway Stadium on Saturday, June 8. British Speedway is delighted to be able to confirm the prime summer date for the major event, with the move to a weekend evening staging likely to be warmly welcomed by supporters.
The Manchester venue has been home to the British Final since 2016, and next year’s meeting will see Aces star Dan Bewley bid to become the first rider to secure a hat-trick of titles since Tai Woffinden in 2013-15.
But competition is likely to be fierce, especially with the Wild Card place for the British Grand Prix at Cardiff on August 17 also on offer to the British Champion, or the highest-placed finisher if the meeting is won by a GP regular.
Belle Vue CEO Mark Lemon said: “We are delighted to welcome the British Final back to the National Speedway Stadium next summer for what will be our ninth staging of the event.
“This venue was built for the purpose of attracting prestigious meetings such as this, and the Speedway of Nations which will come to Manchester in July.
“We anticipate the 2024 staging will be our most exciting ever with a star-studded field of riders each competing not only to be the British Champion but for the coveted Cardiff wildcard as well.
“And we’re certain that supporters will be delighted with the big event being on a Saturday.
“We are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone to witness the cream of British Speedway battle it out for the big prize.”
Premiership CEO Phil Morris has hailed the weekend staging as another step forward, with the event having generally been held on a Monday evening in recent years.
The only exception to that came in 2022 when rain forced the abandonment of the initial staging, with the meeting then taking place on a Sunday afternoon in mid-September.
Morris said: “As with announcing the Sports Insure Premiership fixture list in early December to allow supporters and riders time to plan, it’s great to get the British Final date confirmed at this stage.
“Our thanks to all at Belle Vue Speedway and our broadcast partners at Eurosport and discovery+ for accommodating the Saturday date, which I’m sure supporters will be pleased with.
“I can also assure everyone that we’ll be working as hard as we can to get the strongest possible line-up for the meeting, and we know what it means to the riders with the national title and the British GP Wild Card up for grabs.
“A British Final on a Saturday night in early summer is a fabulous prospect and it’s something else to really look forward to in 2024.”
Meanwhile, details have also been announced for two Major Events at Championship level next season.
The Championship Pairs will take place at Oxford for the third year in succession, and once again it will be staged on the evening prior to the British Grand Prix.
The event has been arranged for Friday August 16, and will see Glasgow defending the silverware they collected in 2023 thanks to Chris Harris and Benjamin Basso.
And the Championship League Riders’ Championship will remain at Redcar for a second year, on a date to be confirmed, where home favourite Charles Wright will look to defend the title.
