THE BETGOODWIN Four Team Tournament between the SD Timmo Car Sales Oxford Cheetahs powered by County Plumbing Supplies, the Swindon Robins, the Coventry Bees and the Wolverhampton Wolves will take place at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium next Thursday (October 23rd) at 7.30pm.
Oxford Cheetahs returned to action to great acclaim in 2022, following a break of 15 years. The other three clubs are not currently running in British Speedway, but there are various campaigns and plans to re-introduce them.
All four clubs are amongst the most successful of all-time in British Speedway. Between them, they have won 23 top-tier titles, with Coventry having won eight times, and the other three clubs all on five occasions.
Oxford manager Peter Schroeck said: “We wanted one more meeting at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium this season. We didn’t want to finish our home meetings on September 28, while we were well aware that most of the supporters have not seen our victorious Chargers since they won the WSRA National League at Middlesbrough.
“But it’s not just about Oxford Speedway. The meeting is also to highlight Swindon, Coventry and Wolverhampton. None of these famous clubs are currently running, but there is a campaign to save Coventry to Brandon Stadium, while both Swindon and Wolverhampton are still actively looking to move to a new site.
“We are in the process of putting together a line-up of some star names plus riders with connections to the clubs. Our thanks to BetGoodwin for sponsoring this meeting.”
The main meeting will consist of a 16-heat four team tournament. These races will determine which team wins on the night. In addition, there will be a concluding individual final between the top scores from each of the four sides.
It will be the 33rd and final speedway meeting at the BetGoodwin Oxford Stadium in 2025.
