The Plymouth Gladiators have announced the signing of the much-sought-after 31-year-old Danish rider Tobias Thomsen for the 2026 Championship season.
Tobias first rode in the UK during a short spell with the Birmingham Brummies in 2019, but he really came to the fore after joining the Poole Pirates for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, where he has been a key part of the engine room of the team that has won back-to-back League Championships, KO Cup Finals, and the BSN Series in 2024.
Tobias comes in on a bargain 4.81 average, mostly riding in the difficult No. 2 position.
Mark Phillips, the Gladiators’ Director and Promoter, is delighted to have captured his man.
“Tobias has gained an excellent reputation over the past two years with his performances for Poole, often winning races at key moments and beating higher-rated opponents. He is a true team player, and I think he can add at least a point to that average at Plymouth, a track he rides well and one I believe is more suited to his exciting style of racing.
“Our revised track, which was lengthened and widened during the very wet winter of 2023/24, really came into its own in the 2025 season and delivered some outstanding racing once we were able to add some much-needed new shale.
“I think this opportunity to have a home track more suited to his swashbuckling style of riding, with a greater chance of overtaking on the banking, will push his career even further forward.
“We saw in some guest performances for us, both home and away in 2025, what a great asset he can be on his bike, a 100% trier and team man. I also think he fits in perfectly with the ‘Get your backside trackside’ entertainment concept that we are building here at Plymouth, a concept where the team result is important, but delivering some good old-fashioned thrills and spills and real family entertainment on and off the track in a fun environment is of equal importance.
“Older Speedway fans will remember good riders who were also great entertainers, like Magnus Zetterstrom and Adam Skornicki, and I think Tobias has a touch of that in him, which our fans, and Speedway fans everywhere, will love.”
