Czech star Jan Kvech returns to the FIM Speedway Grand Prix spotlight as wild card for the FIM Speedway GP of Czech Republic – Prague on Saturday, May 23.
The two-time Czech champion lines up in the No.16 race jacket as Prague’s Marketa Stadium celebrates a record-extending 30th straight season of staging Speedway GP – and its 32nd SGP round, having hosted action every year since 1997, including double-headers in both 2020 and 2021.
Kvech became a full-time SGP rider for 2024, qualifying at the 2023 FIM SGP Challenge in Gislaved, Sweden. He was then handed a permanent wild card by the SGP Commission for the 2025 season.
After serving as Czech Republic’s first full-time World Championship rider since Lukas Dryml raced in the 2008 series, Kvech is currently the second substitute star for Speedway GP. He could get called back into action at a later stage this season, if an SGP regular is ruled out due to injury, illness or other reasons.
As a junior, Kvech finished second in the 2022 SGP2 series – the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship. He also led the Czech Under-21 side to a silver medal at the 2022 FIM Speedway of Nations – SON2 event in Vojens, Denmark.

Joining Kvech in Prague will be AK Marketa club teammates Adam Bubba Bednar and Daniel Klima, who line up as track reserves at No.17 and No.18 respectively.
Bednar is Czech speedway’s next great hope and finished fourth in the 2025 SGP2 series. Meanwhile, Klima’s career is also advancing, evidenced by a promising start to 2026 with British Cab Direct Championship club Plymouth.
This year’s FIM Czech Republic Speedway GP weekend also features the 2026 FIM Speedway of Nations – SON2 – Prague event, which sees the world’s top eight under-21 teams compete for the FIM Team Speedway Under-21 World Championship on Friday, May 22.
