Michael Palm Toft back for a fourth spell with the Scunthorpe Scorpions

The Scunthorpe Scorpions have confirmed the return of Michael Palm Toft as they continue to shape their side for the 2026 season.

Palm Toft last appeared for the Scorpions in 2024 and, despite seeing his campaign cut short by injury, he was operating as the club’s number one at the time. Team boss David Howe believes the Dane will play an important role as Scunthorpe look to build a competitive line-up.

Howe explained that Palm Toft’s figures stood out immediately when planning began for the new season, particularly given the circumstances surrounding his previous campaign.

“He was always going to be up against it last year after missing a decent chunk of the season,” Howe said on the Scunthorpe Speedway website. “But when you look at his rolling average of 6.10, around Scunthorpe that doesn’t tell the full story.”

Howe expects Palm Toft to show significant improvement, especially on home shale, while also stressing the importance of taking pressure off the former number one by securing strong support elsewhere in the team.

“It’s not that long ago he was riding at number one, so I expect a big improvement from him, particularly at home,” he added. “There will be some away meetings where things might be tougher, but there will also be others where he’ll really fly and be a match winner for us.”

The Scorpions boss also highlighted the balance within the side as a key positive heading into 2026.

“I like the feel of the team,” Howe said. “There’s a good mix of youth and experience, and the environment we’re creating is exactly what we’re aiming for.”
