Newcastle Diamonds select triumph against Redcar Bears - Rundown & Results

Newcastle’s Diamonds Select side put in a commanding performance at the ECCO Arena to take control of the Tyne/Tees Trophy clash against the Redcar Bears, with the meeting ultimately curtailed in the final heat.

The visitors were firmly in charge throughout the night and had built a convincing 49-35 lead heading into Heat 15, underlining their strength across the team in what proved to be a one-sided encounter.

Former Redcar favourite Danny King was the standout performer on his return to the circuit, delivering a flawless display with an 11+1 paid maximum from his four rides. His night was highlighted by a decisive move in Heat 11, where he swept around Jake Allen on the final bend to secure another race win.

Support came throughout the Newcastle ranks, with Victor Palovaara tallying 9 points and Lewis Kerr adding 8+1, both riders taking two race victories apiece. Reserve Simon Lambert also made a valuable contribution with 9+1 as the visitors consistently piled on the points.

For the hosts, Jason Edwards led the scoring with 8+1, while Allen matched him on 8. However, Redcar struggled to match the depth and consistency of their opponents, managing just four race wins across the meeting.

The contest was brought to an early conclusion in Heat 15 following a crash involving Redcar skipper Charles Wright on the opening bend. With the result beyond doubt and Newcastle already in a dominant position, the meeting was subsequently abandoned.

Despite the unfortunate ending, it was Newcastle who left Teesside with the bragging rights after a comprehensive display that sets them up strongly in the Tyne/Tees Trophy.
