Sheldon Davies completes Scunthorpe/Sheffield NDL Side

Sheldon Davies will make a return to the sport this season after completing the combined Scunthorpe/Sheffield side in the WSRA National Development League.

Davies previously rode for Birmingham, Cradley and Edinburgh between 2018 and 2021, and the 23-year-old completes a youthful Stags/Prowlers septet.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We always said that the last spot was open to a rider who impressed at the Eddie Wright Raceway and that’s exactly how Sheldon claimed his team place.

“We’ve had a bit of a nightmare with the weather this winter which has washed out our Amateur meetings, but Simon Lambert invited Sheldon over to the EWR. I liked what I saw, so did Simon, and we’ve given him the opportunity.

“Sheldon lives in Hull, so he’s another local connection for the team. He’s got good equipment and good backing, plus he’s not a complete rookie when it comes to National League racing.

“I believe our side is going to be very attractive to watch, with some cracking British prospects.”

Kean Dicken to ride for joint Scunthorpe and Sheffield National League team!

THE JOINT Scunthorpe and Sheffield National League side has announced that Hull-based Kean Dicken will ride for them in 2024.

The 22-year-old joins Nathan Ablitt, Luke Harrison, Mickie Simpson and brothers Ace and Stene Pijper, as the Stags/Prowlers have now announced six of their seven riders.

Dicken’s previous stint at this level saw him race for Belle Vue in 2018, although he was due to line up for Leicester in 2020 before that campaign was cancelled due to Covid. He had also lost out on a team place at Birmingham in 2017 when he suffered a broken leg on practice day.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey revealed: “Kean Dicken was outstanding in our amateur meetings at the Eddie Wright Raceway last year and I realised he should be riding in the National League and I said as much to him.

“He’s been racing around Scunny since he was a little lad. He’s always had the talent and he’s still only in his early twenties, while he’s probably now more ready to take on the league and show everyone what he can do.

“He’s from Hull, and I’m sure a few will make the journey across the Humber Bridge to see him racing for the Stags.”

Godfrey insisted there would be no rush to sign the seventh and final rider for the team.

He added: “We’re going to take our time. Any rider can come along to our training schools and know if they impress us enough, they can get in.”

Scunthorpe & Sheffield snap up the Pijper brothers in their quest for NDL glory

SCUNTHORPE and Sheffield have pulled off the double signing of Ace and Stene Pijper, with the later turning 15 on April 15th with both lads wanting to join the club, and promoter Rob Godfrey can’t wait to give two of Britain’s hot prospect a chance!

Manager Simon Lambert said “I believe Rob and I have put together is a very formidable team!”

“It has power and strength in all areas. We have 4.61 left to play with and we’re keeping our options open for this spot for now. We want to see talent and keenness at our training schools when the weather allows.”

“We all feel we have a very capable team of bringing even more silverware to both clubs. It’s something exciting to look forward to at both Scunthorpe and Sheffield.”

SCUNTHORPE and Sheffield combine in National Development League

SCUNTHORPE and Sheffield are to share joint participation in the National Development League – a combination which won the title back in 2011.

The team will operate as the Scunthorpe Stags for fixtures which take place at the Eddie Wright Raceway, and as the Sheffield Prowlers when they race at Owlerton, with home meetings spit between the two venues.

Current Scorpions captain Simon Lambert is keen to be involved on the management side and has been co-ordinating putting the team together.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’ve always done our bit in developing younger riders, even when we haven’t been in the NDL.

“We will again be running a British Youth round at Scunthorpe in 2024, as we do every year, while the amateur meetings organised by Richard Hollingsworth have been a key part of our club for a long time.

“The difference between now and the last time we ran a joint team with Sheffield is we’re now in different leagues.

“There’s an opportunity for riders to compete in both the NDL and Championship for Scunthorpe, and who knows after that, they could be riding for both Scorpions in the Championship and Sheffield Tigers in the Premiership in the Rising Star position.”
