Birmingham Brummies bag first win against Belle Vue in TV thriller - Report & Scorecard

The Birmingham Brummies edged out Belle Vue Aces 47-43 in a thrilling televised ROWE Motor Oil Premiership clash on Monday which came down to a dramatic conclusion.

With the scores level at 42-42, Aces skipper Brady Kurtz was disqualified from Heat 15 as he attempted to pass home star Piotr Pawlicki with the Pole taking a heavy fall.

There was still a chance for Dan Bewley in the re-run to keep the scores tied and set up a Super Heat, but Tom Brennan and Pawlicki were the Brummies heroes as they raced to a 5-1 to give their side a much-needed first win of the campaign.

Brennan (9+2) and Pawlicki (8+2) were top scorers for a solid-scoring home team, whilst Kurtz scored 11+1 for the visitors. Brennan also collected the first Omologato Rider of the Meeting award.

Birmingham assistant boss Chris Adams said: “Belle Vue are a very strong team so that was a really good win for the boys.

“We had faith in this team; we know our last few home meetings haven’t gone the way that we wanted but we’ve got our full 1-7 now and we just felt a win was around the corner.

“Tom stepped up to the plate in Heat 15, we knew he had it in him, and he was backed superbly by Piotr.

“But all the boys played their part which was really pleasing and we’ve got something good to build on now.”
