British Speedway's Commercial development plans

BRITISH Speedway is ready to enter a new era of commercial development.

The sport has just enjoyed its most successful ever year for social media interaction and is attracting new audiences across many platforms.

Now the BSPL have appointed a team to help further that development of the sport in 2025.

Premiership CEO Phil Morris explains: “It’s been a ground-breaking year for speedway in many respects.

“Since I was appointed as Chief Executive Officer almost two years ago, we immediately embarked on a journey to transform the sport.

“Obviously one of the prime areas for an immediate overhaul was the overall image of the sport.

“To attract new investors and commercial partners, we needed to up our game with regards to branding and the overall attractiveness of the sport.

“That has been a huge success in 2024. Initially from the first-ever full-scale Premiership press day at the National Speedway Stadium. The imagery, videography and graphics attained on that day changed the face of the sport.

“We know that it made the entire sport sit up and take notice of British speedway again.

“The branding of the sport has also edged closer to the levels needed to rival other motorsports.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done across all areas but progress is being made and foundations are being laid. Some of the biggest amounts of progress won’t be seen for a while but are gaining traction in the background.”

Along with the changing face of the sport, it also saw a boom in social media interaction and outgunning other major events for reach and impressions.

Morris added: “The image of the sport improving has been reinforced by our social media success. We now have millions watching our channels on a monthly basis.

“We will publish the results over the coming weeks. But that has put us in a strong position to appoint a commercial development team to take the sport out to the market and look for partners and investment.

“What we are trying to achieve for speedway is a long-term journey. But we are making progress.

“It’s particularly encouraging to report that Eurosport, Discovery Plus and the British Speedway Network have all increased viewers this season.

“There are more world class riders coming back to the UK, more people are watching the sport and it is visually much more attractive to new audiences.

“We will be running a series of articles during the close season to allow everyone to see how this exciting journey is unfolding.”
