LEICESTER and King’s Lynn go into ROWE Motor Oil Premiership action for the first time this season when they meet in the East Midlands tonight (Thursday).
Both sides failed to reach the play-offs last year although in the Lions’ case it was in dramatic circumstances as they missed out on race points difference after a heavy defeat on the final night of regular racing.
There are a number of debutants in the clash at the Pidcock Motorcycles Arena, Beaumont Park with American star Luke Becker set to be watched by his mentor, four-time World Champion Greg Hancock, as he lines up for the Lions – whilst Tobiasz Musielak takes over as skipper of the Stars.
Leicester captain Max Fricke said: “We’ve got a new team this year and a lot of changes around the club so it’s really cool to see, and hopefully we’ll put in some good results.
“It is the first one of the year so we’ve got to be conscious of that – but I think we should go well.
“Everyone is keen and ready to go and we can’t wait for it. It’s been a long off-season so we’re looking forward to seeing all of the supporters there.”
King’s Lynn operations manager Dale Allitt said: “It’s obviously difficult to know what to expect, because none of us have ridden yet as Leicester got called off last week.
“It’s straight into league action, but we’ll certainly be going there to try and get some points, that’s the name of the game, and we’ll be confident.
“I’m really not bothered about what other people do. We know our job, we know what we’ve got to do, and we will concentrate on being the best we can.”
