The Championship – All to Race For!

BRITISH Speedway chairman Rob Godfrey believes the Cab Direct Championship is set to offer a hugely competitive product this season.

Glasgow will defend the second-tier title, with the league this year also featuring newcomers Workington, and official business gets underway with the opening BSN Series fixtures over Easter with Godfrey’s own Scunthorpe team in action.

He said: “People will say there are some stand-out teams, but I was tipping Plymouth because of their strength at reserve prior to (Nico) Covatti getting injured.

“Until the season has started off and we’ve got a few results under our belts, I don’t think you’re going to see a clear team out there that’s going to win.

“I think it’s going to be a lot closer than it has been. If you look at last year, of the nine teams, five were so much stronger than the other four, and this year I don’t believe that’s the case.

“It’s unfortunate what’s happened to Plymouth, I really do feel for them, and hopefully we can find a solution for them and they can find a rider to fit in while Covatti comes back.”
