Workington Comets powered by GT Tyres for the next TWO years

Workington Speedway has announced that its partnership with GT Tyres will continue for the next TWO years as they enter the Cab Direct Championship in 2024.

The Workington Comets will once again come to the tapes powered by GT Tyres, a local family firm who have the same passion and ambition as we do. They have branches in Maryport and Carlisle and are currently carrying out extensive work on a new facility, on the Rosehill Industrial Estate in Carlisle.

Workington Speedway Promoter, Andrew Bain is delighted the local firm is back on board after they were part of a successful return to league racing in 2023:

“The affiliation between Graeme Thompson of GT Tyres and Workington Speedway has grown and we are proud to have them back on board as our Title Sponsors for the next two seasons.

“Graeme and his teams do amazing work, as well as support the local community. He is as passionate about speedway as we are and knows what it means to West Cumbria to have the Comets back in town.”

Sponsorship is the lifeline to every club and without the support of GT Tyres, it would be extremely difficult for the Comets to come to the tapes. Therefore we would like to thank Graeme for his continued commitment and hopefully, the Comets can win some silverware in 2024 and beyond with GT Tyres.

GT Tyres Director, Graeme Thompson said:

“I’ve been passionate about speedway from an early age. I used to take my grifter down to Bank End farm and listen to Steve [Lawson] tuning the bikes. The general buzz around speedway goes back a long way in West Cumbria.

“I’m absolutely over the moon to be part of the Comets for the next two seasons. So good luck to the Comets and it’s fantastic to be a part of it!”
