The home favourite made his decisive move in the six-rider Final, sweeping past former World Champion Chris Holder midway through the race to deny the Sheffield rider a perfect night after he had dominated the earlier stages of the meeting.

Brady Kurtz, who had picked up two race wins during the qualifying heats, secured third place on the podium, while Jason Doyle, Max Fricke and Adam Ellis were also involved in the Final but missed out on the top three.

Despite steady rain falling throughout the afternoon, the meeting went ahead and once the track began to dry the racing delivered plenty of entertainment for the Manchester crowd. Bewley had earlier produced two strong rides from the back of the field in his final qualifying outings to book his place in the deciding race.

The prestigious individual event traditionally opens the Aces’ season and once again features a strong field of top riders battling for one of British Speedway’s most respected trophies.

The meeting format also offers a distinctive finish. After the regular heats, the top three scorers progress straight to the Final, while the next five riders compete in a semi-final to determine the remaining three places in the six-rider showdown that decides the winner.

There have been a couple of late changes to the line-up ahead of the meeting. Adam Ellis has been called in to replace Fredrik Lindgren, who is unavailable due to personal reasons, while Sam Masters steps in for Niels-Kristian Iversen following the Dane’s concussion in a crash at King’s Lynn on Sunday.

Tickets for the Peter Craven Memorial remain available online through the Belle Vue Speedway website and will also be on sale at the stadium on the night.

For supporters unable to attend in person, the meeting will be broadcast live via BVTV, with coverage beginning at 6.30pm.

Belle Vue CEO Mark Lemon believes the strength of the field highlights the event’s prestige within British Speedway.

“It has prestige written all over it. Even though riders are looking for early-season track time, they’re all highly competitive and that really comes out in this meeting.

The Australian enjoyed a stellar 2025 campaign, going agonisingly close to the sport’s biggest prize in his debut Grand Prix campaign.

With treble British Champion Dan Bewley also signed up for the Aces once more, it means the Manchester club will be tracking two of the world’s top three riders – with four of the top eight competing regularly in the UK.

Kurtz said: “I’m really looking forward to it again. It’s going to be my sixth season with the club and that’s pretty crazy to think I’ve been here that long!

“I’ve enjoyed every year and hopefully this year will be no different.

“I’ve had a really nice break over the winter in the few weeks I spent in Australia, and I’m really ready to go for the season again. I felt the break was needed and hopefully that will be the right choice.”

Zischke, 20, made his Aces debut in mid-2024 but suffered serious injuries on his debut, meaning he had to wait until last season to gain significant experience in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership.

CEO Mark Lemon said: “We gave Tate the opportunity to perform last year without any pressure, but he did take a step back in confidence after the injury.

“We expect him to kick on now in 2026, and he’s shown promise already in the Australian Championship.

“He’s got the talent, he just has to apply himself and coming in on a 3.00 average we’ve done the hard yards and persevered with him, so it’s time for him to step up.”

The 26-year-old Australian pushed his Premiership average up to 6.20 and is now set to take on a heat-leader berth at the National Speedway Stadium in 2026.

Cook said: “I really enjoyed my time there last year, and hopefully this year we can go a few steps better, make that Final and get some silverware.

“I’m looking forward to it – not long now and we’ll be heading back over, and the season will be underway shortly.”

Kildemand had agreed to join the Aces for the 2020 season which was cancelled due to the pandemic, and he did not return to the UK until last year when he rode for Oxford Spires in the Premiership.

The former Grand Prix winner completed the season with a 5.28 average and will be looking to improve that figure at the National Speedway Stadium.

Kildemand said: “I should have been there before but Covid killed it at the time, so I’m really happy to be there for the coming season.

“It’s an awesome track with some awesome people around it, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

The 21-year-old will enter his fifth campaign with the Aces, having previously enjoyed title success with the Manchester club in both 2022 and 2024.

Blodorn completed the 2025 domestic season with a 4.87 average before producing a standout international performance by captaining Germany to a shock victory in the FIM Speedway of Nations 2 in Torun.

He becomes the latest confirmed signing at the National Speedway Stadium, lining up alongside Dan Bewley and new Rising Star Will Cairns.

The ATPI Aces have revealed the seven riders who will bid to retain the title in 2025.

Inspirational boss Lemon has kept the winning formula of keeping the core of the side after attaining two championship victories in three seasons.

Captain Brady Kurtz and Dan Bewley will lead the club for a third successive campaign while Jaimon Lidsey, Norick Blodorn and Jake Mulford all return. Exciting young Australian Tate Zischke is back after his short spell at the National Speedway Stadium was ended by injury last season.

The new name is Aussie Zach Cook who, ironically, replaces his brother Ben due to his average being too high to keep the team under the Premiership’s points limit.

Lemon admitted: “Naturally I am delighted with the team that has been assembled.

“Having to break up a title-winning team is always very difficult but obviously that’s a situation forced upon us by rules.

“But I have great faith in Zach. He has shown fantastic progress over the last season and he will fit into the side perfectly.

“There’s a great deal of power at the top end and potential right down the order.

“We are led by two Grand Prix riders and both Brady and Dan were outstanding as we won the title last season.

“There’s room for improvement from Jaimon, Norick, Tate and Jake. If they can fulfil their potential, we will be a huge threat home and away.”

Lemon also admits that the biggest task in the sport is to defend a league title.

He added: “It’s a huge challenge to go back-to-back but we are ready to go for it.

“The last time the top flight title was defended was 10 years ago in 2015.

“We are excited to try and achieve something special. It will be tough but that’s what fires everyone up. What is sport without fierce competition and the 2025 Premiership looks stronger than ever.

“It’s been an outstanding few years for the club. We are back in our rightful mantle of the biggest club in British speedway, the most history and the most title wins.

“With that comes the expectation of more success. We have to accept that and use it as motivation. The class of 2025 knows what is expected.”

The new season, a historic tenth at the National Speedway Stadium, will start next spring, fixture dates to be released in due course.

The NSS will also host its first Manchester SGP on June 14 and British Championship final, date also to be confirmed at a later date.

The 20-year old from Norwich made his first top flight appearance for the ATPI Aces two years ago, when he debuted for the club as their No.7 at just 18 years old.

An unfortunate Grasstrack accident half way through the 2023 season ruled him out with a broken leg, but he returned to Manchester midway through this campaign again as the Rising Star.

Several impressive performances in the last few months, in particular during the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership Grand Final, was enough to convince CEO Mark Lemon to bring him back to the NSS.

Lemon said: “Jake was a natural choice for us. Since riding for the Belle Vue Colts, and making his Premiership debut, he has shown a great deal of promise and potential.

“We’re very excited to bring him back to Manchester in 2025. We have seen first-hand the how he has developed since his first meetings in the Premiership.

“He is much more confident on the bike and his achievements this season, in particular in the World U23 Long Track championship, are proof of his progression.”

Mulford added: “I was delighted to be given a second shot by Belle Vue in 2024, and I’m very much looking forward to being back with the team for next season.

“I’ve not had chance to show what I can do in a full season in the Premiership yet, but in the last two years I think I’ve come a long way since my first meeting.

“I’m grateful to Mark for the opportunity and for putting his faith in me again, and I can’t wait to see what the 2025 season brings for me.”

Further team news for 2025 is expected to arrive at the club’s annual Christmas Cracker in December, following the league AGM next month.
